Congregation Netivot Shalom Preschool seeks to create a stimulating and enriching educational environment for each and every child.
We are devoted to helping children learn socialization skills, building their self-confidence and teaching them the preliminary skills to explore and experience the world independently from their parents.
In addition, we seek to ignite a spark in each child to lay claim to her or his Jewish heritage and commit him or her to a lifetime passion for learning.

HaShavuah - Nachshonim

21 January 2018
5th of Sh'vat, 5778

Shavua Tov Nachshonim Families,

We started our week introducing the yeladium to Tu B Shevat.  We let them know that we are going to be celebrating the “Birthday of the Trees” which was preceded by asking the question “ What do you know about trees?”  things we heard, “ trees have fruit” “that's right, apples, pears,” “ I have an apple tree”, “we can climb trees”, “birds live in trees.”  As the week continued the yeladium learned the parts of a tree and other nature words in English and Hebrew:

Etz- Tree,  Teva - Nature,  Shemesh- Sun, Z'raiym-Seeds,  Aliym-Leafs,  Shorashim- Roots
Anafiym-Leafs, Chedek- trunk ,  Mayim- Water

They also were able to touch and feel parts of a tree, painted leafs with red blue and yellow, and as a group we placed celery in water added blue, red and yellow food coloring, ask “what happened to the celery?” (please take a look at our window ledge), as well as putting avocado pits in a cup of water with toothpicks to hold it up.

In the yard, we watered the plants, played with a water table with tree and nature items and looked for living bugs, and creatures under rocks, tree stumps etc.

Next week we will plant parsley for Passover, and continue to sing, read and experience Tu B'Shevat!

Shalom,

Miri and Jennaba
