Congregation Netivot Shalom Preschool seeks to create a stimulating and enriching educational environment for each and every child.
We are devoted to helping children learn socialization skills, building their self-confidence and teaching them the preliminary skills to explore and experience the world independently from their parents.
In addition, we seek to ignite a spark in each child to lay claim to her or his Jewish heritage and commit him or her to a lifetime passion for learning.

  • We played "ice cream store" outside
  • We read a very silly Book with no Pictures
  • We practiced and performed a Noah's Ark play!
  • We looked at maps, exploring land and water
  • Dirt play outdoors: messy is fun!

-On Monday we made the Ooblek from cornstarch and water.
-Indoor water play
-Out in the play yard, the children have been playing with dirt and mud in our plastic turtle pool.
-more finger-painting this week!
- We played with colorful soft pom-poms in combination with the grabbers we use at snacktime and also egg cartons. We did some sorting and counting.

-We baked challah on Friday for pretend Shabbat.

- We were gifted some wheat grass and we offered it to Rena and Shira. We let them enjoy it outdoors on blanket while their cage was cleaned.
- We continue to take opportunities to look at and spell out our written names This happens when we pick a name to feed the guinea pigs, when we write names on challah bags, when placing a name on a piece of art, any time is a good time to learn to recognize our names.

-We have some great books in our reading corner right now
"Lefamim"/Sometimes - A book about emotions in Hebrew
"Germs are Not for Sharing" - All very relevant for us, we wash our hands often at school
"Tusikim"/Tushies -  A book in Hebrew about both animals and humans and using the potty
"Gobble It Up!" - a songbook with a CD about animals surviving and eating.
"One Fish. Two Fish. Red Fish. Blue Fish." - A Dr. Seuss classic

We hope you have a pleasant weekend.

Hashvua'im/The Two Weeks

Hashvua'im/The two weeks
October 20, 2014
26 Tishrei, 5775

Shalom Nachshonim Families,
The last couple of weeks have been delightful and we would love to share with you what we have been up to.

Sukkot
-We made and hung decorations in the Sukkah
-We enjoyed eating our lunches in the Sukkah, and then spending time outdoors in the courtyard. We brought some balls and colorful cones to play with after our meals.
- We have been playing with our toy tools, we observed how the Sukkah is built with beams on the side and a schach/what we call the sukkah's roof.
-We hammered wooden golf tees into our play dough and styrofoam.
-Ofra brought in her saw and the children watched her cut a stick of bamboo to the right length to help support our ficus plant growing in the kitah.
- We have a couple books about Sukkot that we have been enjoying.

Sensory Activities
-We played with cacao mulch outside in our sensory table and it smells like chocolate.
-We played with sticky foam and our small farm animal toys.
- We had a very fun and messy foam paint experience all over the table. The children used their hands to mix the paint. We also took some paper and laid it on top of our painty table to make foam paint prints.

-We have a giant cardboard tube that we have been using to send our toy cars down the ramp

- We had a great time involved in some big body play in social hall. We used our tumbling mat, our tunnel, scarves and ribbons, and of course the kids love to play with the plastic chairs that live in the social hall.

- We had a visit from our new substitute teacher named Ahava.

-We had visits from Melita our music specialist. And we had visits from Rabbi Creditor. Both of them bring their guitars when the come to see us!
-Ofra brought in her Ukulele this last week to share music with the children.

There is more to come!
Thanks for reading
